The news media have been covering ways to reduce stress – and whether “holding your hand over your heart” like actor Pablo Pascal can work in this regard.

It’s important to understand that it causes your body to release stress or anxiety hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline, which can in turn make you even more anxious.

This vicious cycle can be very painful, but there are ways to combat it.

These include deep breathing for anxiety, stretching, and thinking calm thoughts. You can also close your eyes and count to ten slowly or chew gum to reduce your anxiety. Immediate anxiety relief techniques such as these can be very effective.

These are just some ideas to reduce stress and anxiety in a pinch. If these are feelings that you’re experiencing over longer periods of time then it’s imperative you consult with your physician or other healthcare professional. They can suggest effective stress management strategies tailored to your needs.

And keep in mind that just because Pedro Pascal supposedly believes that placing his hand over his heart when he’s on the red carpet helps him stay calm, there’s no scientific evidence that this technique actually works.
