Commonly Treated Psychiatric Disorders
Depression
Depression is serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Symptoms include sadness, sleep & appetite changes, lack of motivation and energy. Depression is often treatable with medications and therapy
Anxiety
Anxiety is a normal reaction to stress that becomes a disorder when fear or anxiety is excessive. Symptoms include restlessness, feeling on edge or easily fatigued, difficulty concentrating, muscle tension or problems sleeping.
ADHD
Symptoms of ADHD include inattention (not being able to keep focus), hyperactivity (excess movement) and impulsivity (acts that occur in the moment without thought). An estimated 8.4 % of children and 2.5 % of adults have ADHD.
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar disorder is a brain disorder that results in a manic episode which include symptoms of elevated mood, grandiose delusions, decreased desire to sleep that lasts 4 or more days. Patients may also have episodes of depression before or after the manic episode.
Addiction
Addiction is a brain disease that is manifested by compulsive substance use despite harmful consequence and usually have an intense focus alcohol or drugs, to the point that it takes over their life. Treatment includes therapy, medications and support groups.
Dementia
Dementia is also known as major neurocognitive disorder that results in problems with thinking, memory, and reasoning. Multiple disorders could result in dementia and treatment often includes treating underlying condition and providing supportive services.
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a type of anxiety in which people have obsessions (recurring, unwanted thoughts, ideas or sensations) and/or compulsions (intense drive to do something repetitively. Related conditions include Body Dysmorphia, Hoarding disorder, Hair-pulling and Skin-picking.
Personality disorder
Personality disorders are long-term patterns of behavior and inner experiences that begins by late adolescence or early adulthood and causes distress or problems in functioning. Without treatment, personality disorders can be long-lasting and often result in problems with relationships and ability to work. Treatment involves extensive therapy and medications can help.
Pregnancy & Post-partum depression
Postpartum depression is a serious, but treatable medical illness involving feelings of extreme sadness, indifference. 1 in 7 woman experience postpartum depression. Untreated depression can result in premature birth, low birth weight, and deficits in cognitive, emotional, verbal development and skills.
PTSD
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder patients have intense, disturbing thoughts and feelings related to their traumatic experience that last long after the traumatic event has ended. Certain individuals are more prone to developing PTSD and severity of traumatic experience does not correlate with the severity of the disease.
Sleep Disorder
Sleep disorders involve problems with the quality, timing and amount of sleep, which cause problems with functioning and distress during the daytime. 20% of people complain of significant sleep problems and symptoms of insomnia are often treatable with therapy and medications.
Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a chronic disease which symptoms include delusions, hallucinations, trouble with thinking and concentration, and lack of motivation. Treatment includes medications, but also supportive structured living environment

PSYCHIATRIC MEDICATION MANAGEMENT

Certain individuals are more prone to developing PTSD and severity of traumatic experience does not correlate with the severity of the disease.

GERIATRIC PSYCHIATRY
Evaluation and treatment for patients 65 years and older with depression, anxiety, behavioral symptoms of dementia and other psychiatric disorders complicated by the biological and psychological effects of aging.

INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP PSYCHOTHERAPY
Long-term psychotherapy for patients with relationship or personal difficulties. All diagnoses including those requiring medication are considered.

PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS
Consultation and medication management for patients with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder and unspecified psychosis.

MOOD DISORDERS
At our facility, we understand the impact of mood disorders on family dynamics and other interpersonal relationships. Second opinion, medication management and therapy are available to treat anxiety, bipolar disorder and depression (including dysthymia and cyclothymia).

WOMEN’S WELLNESS
Evaluation and treatment of female specific psychiatric disorders and behavioral or psychiatric symptoms related to antepartum and post-partum depression and psychosis, PMS, menopause, PTSD from sexual abuse and domestic violence.
